Fire guts Lagos community recycling site, spreads to buildings

A fire outbreak on Monday gutted an open recycling space and spread to nearby buildings along Pipeline Road, off Ekoro Road, Abule Egba, Lagos.

The Controller-General of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Mrs Margaret Adeseye, confirmed the incident in a statement.

She said a distress call was received at about 1:08 p.m., reporting the incident at No. 15, Pipeline Road.

“Firefighting crews from the Agege and Abesan fire stations were immediately mobilised and deployed to the scene,” she said.

Adeseye said preliminary investigations showed that the fire started in an open space used for local recycling activities operated by some individuals.

“The blaze later spread to a nearby residential bungalow and a mini church, causing damage to the affected structures,” she added.

She said one adult female suffered shock at the scene and was stabilised by emergency responders. Punch
