At least six people have been killed in a fresh attack by gunmen in Marit village and Gashish district of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, Plateau State.
The attack has sparked widespread condemnation, with leaders and community members calling for increased security measures to prevent further attacks.
The National President of the Berom Youths Moulders Association, Solomon Dalyop, who confirmed the killings to The PUNCH in Jos on Tuesday, said the attack occurred on May 4, 2025, at around 8:11 pm in Kakuruk village, Gashish District.
He said the victims include Mr. Nyam Davou, 44 years old, Mrs. Kande Thoma, 40 years old and Kande’s 6-month-old baby.
He added that four others were injured in the attack, including a 7-year-old girl and three women.
“It should be on record that the ongoing dastardly acts of the bandits, as well as the terrorism being meted out, are not surprising but rather disturbing.
“This is because, early warning signals and alerts about the influx of suspected bandits in the guise of Fulani reliably given before time have, unarguably, been sent to appropriate authorities, yet the attackers continue to take advantage of the inadequacy of security manpower to hit at vulnerable areas and villages, sparing no one, including women and little children, as depicted in the last night attack,” Dalyop said.
