Aggrieved policemen on Friday stormed the office of the Accountant-General of the Federation over the illegal deductions from their salaries and delayed payment allegedly over the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System.

It was gathered that the arrival of the armed operatives alarmed the workers who immediately contacted the police authorities.

The incident prompted the police spokesman, Jimoh Moshood, to issue a statement assuring the angry policemen that the payment problems were being resolved.

He attributed the shortfall in the April salary of policemen to a system error, which he claimed was being addressed.

“The Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation has assured the Nigeria Police Force that salary short payment for police personnel for April 2018 was due to systems error and is being promptly resolved.

“All other issues relating to payment of salary to police personnel are being addressed; The affected personnel will according to OAGF get the salary differential paid on or before Monday, May 7, 2018,” the statement said.

However, our correspondent learnt that policemen have in the past six months been visiting the AG’s office to complain about the massive deductions from their meagre salaries. Punch
