Insecurity: Another group begs Buhari to sack NSA Monguno, gives two-week ultimatum

Monguno

A group, the Arewa Youth Assembly, on Monday insisted that the National Security Adviser, Major-General Babagana Monguno, be relieved of his position over the intractable insecurity across the country.

The group, therefore, handed down a 14-day ultimatum for the President, Major-General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) to sack the NSA or the organisation, comprising youths from the 19 Northern States and Abuja, would be forced to occupy the NSA’s office.

They wondered why the Buhari was still keeping Monguno despite the growing spate of insecurity occasioned by “avoidable killings” by terrorists.

The Speaker of the Assembly, Mohammed Danlami, in a statement issued in Kaduna on Monday, also warned that Nigeria was drifting towards the Afghanistan way and there was an urgent need to arrest the situation before it got out of hands.

He also warned that of the if the killings by terrorists continued, the group would be forced to mobilised northerners to resort to selp help.

He noted that some “saboteurs” Buhari trusted with powers, appeared to be handing over the country and indeed, the President to terrorists as witnessed in Afghanistan.

Danlami urged President Buhari to seek for foreign help to keep the country safe as “available evidence point to the fact that our numerous Generals without war experience” could not fight the ragtag terrorists already taking over Nigeria.

According to him, the NSA has run out of ideas, coupled with his obvious failure of strategy and counsels emanating from his office, leading to the sundry avoidable attacks in the country.

He said, “Following the insistence of Babagana Monguno, the National Security Adviser, to continue functioning in his official capacity despite the growing insecurity and avoidable killings in our country, the Arewa Youths Assembly, wish to call on President Muhammadu Buhari to immediately sack the NSA due to obvious failure of strategy and counsels emanating from his office.

“The group notes that some saboteurs whom the president trusted with power, appears to be systematically handing over Nigeria and even Mr President over to terrorist as it was in Afghanistan.

“The group further notes that the recent spades of killings and attacks in the nation capital, which ought to be the last place to fall in the case of any war, shows that things have fallen apart and terrorist elements seems to be reigning supreme in the land.

“The Assembly urged Mr President to seek for Foreign help in his bid to make Nigeria a safer place, as available evidence point to the fact that our numerous Generals without war experience can’t fight the ragtag terrorists who have taking charge of rural areas and are now threatening the nation capital, including Mr President and (Kaduna State) Governor El-Rufai with kidnap.

“The group notes that they can’t continue to fold their arms and watch their people being killed with little or no effort from the powers that be. The group further stated that, if this continues descend to anarchy is not halted, they will be forced to mobilize their members in the Northern part of the country to resort to self.

“By this, we wish reiterate our call on Mr President to Sack the NSA who has run out of ideas with immediate effect, failure which will force us to occupy the NSA’s office in the next 14 days, until he is suffocated out of his to feel what we the ordinary Nigerians are feeling as a result of many counsels in the past seven years.” Punch
