The President of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, Bishop Wale Oke, has urged President Bola Tinubu not to relent in the fight against insecurity, insisting that bandits and terrorists must be decisively crushed without regard for “sacred cows.”
Oke made the call on Sunday while speaking with journalists in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, against the backdrop of renewed counter-terrorism operations in the country.
PUNCH Online reports that the United States President, Donald Trump, had on Thursday announced that US forces carried out deadly airstrikes against Islamic State terrorists in North-West Nigeria, vowing further action if militants continued killing Christians.
Trump disclosed this via his Truth Social platform, stating that the Department of War executed what he described as “numerous perfect strikes.”
He wrote, “Tonight (Thursday), at my direction as Commander in Chief, the United States launched a powerful and deadly strike against ISIS terrorist scum in Northwest Nigeria, who have been targeting and viciously killing, primarily, innocent Christians, at levels not seen for many years, and even centuries.
“I have previously warned these terrorists that if they did not stop the slaughtering of Christians, there would be hell to pay, and tonight, there was.”
Reacting, Oke said insecurity, rather than corruption, had become Nigeria’s most pressing challenge, while commending the United States government for its cooperation with Nigeria in tackling banditry and terrorism. Punch
