Kano suspends fee hike by private schools

The Kano State Government, on Sunday, ordered the suspension of school fees increment across all private primary and secondary schools.

The Special Adviser to the State Governor on Private Schools, Baba Umar, who confirmed the suspension also said that the sale of books and uniforms by private schools has been put on hold.

Also, Umar disclosed that all certificates from private schools have been revoked.

According to him, the government has commenced the issuance of application forms for the registration of private schools, following the withdrawal of certificate of operations of the schools by the state government.

He said, “The state government has commenced the issuance of application forms for registration of the operations of private schools in the state, which will end on Friday, August 18th, 2023.

Umar mentioned that the new registration seeks to ensure the availability of a database for monitoring. He noted that parents have been advised against paying fee increments in any of the schools.

He added, “The essence of the new registration is to ensure we have an accurate database for government’s policy and monitoring, to sanitise the sector. All that we are rolling out for private schools operation in the state is in line with the law established in May 2014. Punch
