Motorists along the Interchange area of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway were on Tuesday trapped in several hours of gridlock due to ongoing construction work.
This comes barely 24 hours after a protest by some residents of Oyo State over the planned expansion of the Circular Road grounded traffic along the expressway.
PUNCH Metro learnt that the gridlock, which began in the early hours of Tuesday and lasted till evening, extended to the adjoining Abeokuta-Sagamu Expressway.
The traffic jam was said to have stretched from the Ogere area to the Lufwape section of the expressway.
It was also gathered that several motorists resorted to taking alternative routes to reach their destinations, while others turned to commuting by motorcycle.
A motorist who identified himself simply as Freeman told our correspondent in a telephone conversation on Tuesday that some drivers plying one-way routes further compounded the gridlock.
Freeman said, “The road was blocked from Sagamu Mechanic Village to the Interchange. Some people were taking bikes to Interchange, but from there, both inbound and outbound, there was no movement in the morning. Punch
