More trouble for Fani-Kayode as court admits letter on how he ‘collected’ N26m from NSA Office

A Federal High Court in Abuja yesterday admitted in evidence a letter from the Office of National Security Adviser (ONSA) in the ongoing trial of former Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is prosecuting Fani-Kayode on a five-count charge bordering on criminal breach of trust and money laundering in connection with the N26 million he allegedly got from ONSA.

The letter, according to the EFCC, contains details of how Fani-Kayode got the money.

On Tuesday, lead prosecuting lawyer, Farouk Abdullah, invited Mohammed Goji, an official of the EFCC, who continued his testimony as the third prosecution witness.

Goji told the court that he had a certified true copy (CTC) of a letter from ONSA to EFCC, detailing payments allegedly made to Fani- Kayode.

The witness said the letter was in response to a request sent to ONSA by the EFCC Chairman.

When Abdullah applied to tender the letter, lead defence lawyer, Wale Balogun, did not object to the move.

Balogun urged the court to grant an adjournment to enable him cross-examine the witness, who began his testimony about a year ago. He said he needed time to run through the witness’s testimony.

Justice John Tsoho acceded to Balogun’s request, saying since it is a criminal case, the defence required sufficient time to prepare.

The judge adjourned till May 3 for the defence to cross-examine Goji. Nation
