N46.7m debt: Court freezes Wanle Akinboboye’s La Campagne Tropicana’s accounts

The Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered 27 commercial banks in the country to place post-no-debit on the accounts of a tourism outfit, ‘La Campagne Tropicana Beach Resort’, over an alleged N46, 798, 095.94.

Justice Akintayo Aluko made the order of mareva injunction on May 17,  while ruling on an ex parte motion marked FHC/L/CS/746/2023, filed by Ecobank Nigeria Limited and ETI Specialised Resolution Company Limited.

The applicants, through their lawyer, George Duru, dragged the tourism company and its promoter, Dr Olawale Akinboye, court in a bid to recover an alleged  N46.7m debt.

In his ruling, the judge made an interim Order of Mareva injunction restraining the defendants and their agents “from withdrawing, transferring, transacting and dealing in any manner howsoever any monies/funds in their accounts with the banks listed above, up to the sum of N46,798,095. 94m, pending the hearing and final determination of the Motion on Notice filed along herewith.”

The judge further ordered “the banks listed above to hold and preserve the funds of the first and second defendants in their accounts to the tune of N46,798,095.94, pending the hearing and determination of the Motion on Notice.”

The judge directed  banks to file their affidavit of compliance with the order made herein within 14 days of receipt of the order.

He adjourned the matter to June 1, 2023, for hearing of the Motion on Notice. Punch
