Naira scarcity: Protests in Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Ondo, Rivers

The growing frustrations over the scarcity of naira following the Central Bank of Nigeria(CBN) currency redesign policy stirred pandemonium in Lago, Ogun, Oyo, Rivers on Friday.

The violence which is coming a day after President Muhammadu Buhari addressed the nation on the crisis stoked by naira scarcity paralysed economic activities in the country.

Lagos: Unrest in Agege, Ikorodu, Mile 12

The civil unrest early on Monday morning has now spread to Agege, Ikorodu and other parts of Lagos State.

Pandemonium broke out in some parts of state in the early hours, on Friday, as some aggrieved persons suspected to be hoodlums stormed major roads in protest of the naira scarcity in the state.

Ogun: Pandemonium in Mowe, Magboro

Vehicular and commercial activities were in the early hours of Friday destrupted in Mowe area on Lagos-Ibadan expressway, in Obafemi Owode local government area of Ogun State as youths in the area protested the lingering new naira policy and fuel scarcity.

It was gathered that the protesters barricaded the Mowe end of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and turned back motorists and travellers.

Our correspondent learnt that the protesters resisted police intervention and threatened to set the police station in the area ablaze.

They also set bonfire on the highway, and this forced motorists and travellers to hurriedly turned back.

Shop owners closed their shops and scampered to safety.

Also, the riots on Friday morning spread to the Magboro axis of the highway with travellers and road users turning back to the Lagos end of the road.

Banks on fire Rivers

In River state, protest has allegedly broken out in the Diobu and Mile 1 areas of Port Harcourt.

According to the report, banks are being set on fire with people are out on the roads protesting the new naira redesign.
The pictures show banks being set on fire by angry protesters while men are marching on the streets of the state protesting.

Residents living in that area have been advised to stay indoors due to gun shots being heard. Vanguard
