Tragedy has claimed the lives of five children in the Agyaragu community in the Obi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State on Sunday.
The unfortunate incident, which claimed the lives of the children who were said to be between ages 6-10 years, died of suffocation inside an old car parked in a residential compound in the area.
A resident of the community who is also the Publicity Secretary of the Migili Youth Association, Comrade Samuel Akala, confirmed the incident to our correspondent in Lafia on Sunday.
According to him, the unfortunate incident occurred around 3:00 pm on Sunday, throwing the community into mourning.
The youth leader said some of the deceased children died at the scene of the incident, while others were confirmed dead at Aroh Hospital, Agyaragu.
Akala added that the unfortunate incident that hit the Nasarawa community has since been reported to the Police at the Duglu Trailer Park in the area.
Our correspondent gathered that the corpses of the children have been deposited at a mortuary in Lafia, the state capital.
Meanwhile, the Nasarawa State Police Command has also confirmed the tragic death of the children in a statement issued by its spokesman, SP Ramhan Nansel.
Nansel said the command has launched a full-scale investigation into the incident following a directive by the Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed.
The statement reads, “The Nasarawa State Police Command has launched a full investigation into the unfortunate death of five children who were found lifeless inside an abandoned, unserviceable vehicle in the Agyaragu community of Obi Local Government Area.
“On May 4, 2025, at about 1730hrs, one Mr. Ozimna Ogbor, a resident of Agyaragu, reported at the Agyaragu Divisional Headquarters that five children – Kamsi Onah (male, 8 years), Somer Onah (male, 6 years), Eunice Udouchi (female, 10 years), Nmasoma Nnaji (female, 10 years), and Chioma Nnaji (female, 8 years) – were discovered unresponsive inside a disused vehicle parked in the compound of one Mr. Abu Agyeme, who is also a resident of Agyaragu.
