The workers in Ondo State under the auspices of the Nigerian Union of Allied Health Professionals, Ondo State chapter, on Wednesday commenced indefinite strike over alleged non-payment of their salaries by the state government.

The striking workers include medical laboratory scientists, optometrists, physiotherapists, pharmacists, health information managers/officers, dieticians and radiographers.

The development came a few weeks after medical doctors in the services of the state government began their indefinite strike over payment of percentage salaries.

In the same vein, nurses in the state under the aegis of the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives recently went on a warning strike over the same issue of irregular salary payment.

Speaking, the Chairman of the NUAHP, Prince Adedire Adeyinka, explained that health workers were exposed to various deadly diseases such as Lassa Fever, COVID-19, among others.

He noted that without prompt payment of salaries, it had become difficult for his members to fortify their immune system against the ravaging pandemic and other diseases. Punch
