Ogun: Woman allegedly commitssuicide after broken engagement

The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the death of a 30-year-old mother of three, Abigail Adebayo, who allegedly took her own life following a reported disagreement over her planned marriage.

PUNCH Metro gathered that the incident occurred on February 12, 2026, in the Ijebu area of Ogun State.

An online platform, Newstrends, reported that the deceased had been in a relationship with her fiancé since September 2025 and that both were making arrangements to formalise their union.

According to the report, trouble began after the man introduced Abigail to his family. The family allegedly objected to the marriage upon discovering that she had three children from a previous relationship. The disapproval was said to have later been reinforced by the fiancé, a development that reportedly caused her significant emotional distress.

The report stated, “About two weeks ago, he introduced her to his relatives, but his mother reportedly disapproved upon learning that Abigail had three children from a previous relationship. The objection was later reinforced by the man, leading to heightened emotional distress for Abigail.

“Family sources say Abigail was later found motionless in her room and rushed to the General Hospital, Ijebu-Ode, where she was confirmed dead on arrival. The circumstances reportedly indicate that she ingested a toxic substance.”

Confirming the incident in a telephone conversation with our correspondent on Tuesday, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Babaseyi Oluseyi, said the victim was suspected to have died after ingesting an insecticide. Punch
