PDP condemns Fayemi over schools closure for cultural fiesta

As the weeklong National Festival of Arts and Culture hosted by Ekiti State ended on Saturday, the Peoples Democratic Party has described as ridiculous the closure of primary and secondary schools in the state by the Dr Kayode Fayemi-led All Progressives Congress government.

The PDP said while it was not against celebration of our culture and tradition, the closure of schools was unjustified, particularly by Fayemi who had talking about ‘restoring our values in Ekiti’.

The opposition party, in a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Raphael Adeyanju, said, “We wonder the benefits of NAFEST in which the only activities that can been seen at the venue is display of wares, including used clothes and shoes, to Ekiti State such that the future of thousands of our children will be put into jeopardy.

“In all these, what we have seen is a clear misplaced priority on the side of a party and government that do not care about the future of Ekiti children and by the power of God, just like all the afflictions of the Israelites, this phase too shall pass next year.”

But APC Publicity Secretary, Segun Dipe, described the PDP’s remark as unreasonable and belated.

According to Dipe, no governor could have loved education more than Fayemi, who declared free education in primary and secondary schools and abrogated the levy allegedly imposed on pupils by the immediate past PDP administration. Punch
