The Edo State Chapter of the Nigeria Union of Teachers on Wednesday issued a 21-day ultimatum to the state government to pay the outstanding entitlements and improve the condition of service of primary school teachers.

This was contained in a communique issued after the meeting of the State Wing Executive Council on Wednesday. The statement was signed by the State Chairman, Pius Okhueliegbe; Assistant Secretary-General, Moni Mike Itua, and three other officers of the body.

They decried the nonchalant attitude of the state government to genuinely address the union’s age-long demands.

They listed some of the demands to include the payment of 2013 to 2015 promotion arrears of teachers in Oredo, Orhionwon, and Uhunmwode local governments, full implementation of the 30 per cent special allowance for teachers in schools for challenged children, and payment of all outstanding arrears.

The union also demanded the reinforcement and guaranteed payment of primary school teachers’ monthly salaries, on or before the 27th day of every month as already directed by the governor of Edo State. Punch
