Primary: PDP bans Fayose’s aides from voting

Ahead of the  governorship primary of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in Ekiti State, the National Secretariat of the Party (PDP) has disqualified appointees of Governor Ayo Fayose from voting at the exercise. Ayodele Fayose This became necessary, according to the party, in order to ensure transparency in the primary election. The disqualification was revealed following the release of the list of delegates by the party’s national leadership which was signed by the National Organising Secretary, Col. Chris Akobundu (retd).

The decision he said was reached by the National Working Committee, NWC, in consonance with the Ekiti PDP Peace and Reconciliation Committee led by former Senate President, David Mark. Sources revealed to newsmen yesterday in Ado-Ekiti that only serving and former elected officials would be allowed to vote at the primary scheduled for tomorrow. Among prominent aides of Fayose who have been asked to stay away from the venue of the primary, include Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Modupe Alade and Chief of Staff to the Governor, Chief Dipo Anisulowo.

This was just as the Prince Adedayo Adeyeye Movement (PAAM), has warned local government chairmen against producing uniforms to be worn on the day of the primary to the delegates. Speaking with newsmen yesterday, PAAM Director of Publicity, Niyi Ojo, said information at the group’s disposal showed that the council chairmen had been ordered to produce and sew “aso ebi” in favour of an aspirant.

Ojo said the action contravenes the provision of the Electoral Act urging the Electoral Panel to disqualify any aspirant whose delegates wear dresses that run foul of the law to the primary. The campaign spokesman said such action amounts to campaigning on the day of election and the penalty is disqualification of any aspirant whose picture, slogan or logo appears on such uniform.
