Residents of Ipokia in Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun State have decried the deplorable state of the ICT building located in the community secondary school.
Speaking with PUNCH Metro on Sunday, the residents lamented that the building which was once a learning centre for students in the community, has now become a home for reptiles.
Images of the building shared with our correspondent showed damaged ceilings and windows while the paintings on the wall have faded.
It was also learnt that the ICT building was facilitated by a House of Representatives member, Abiodun Akinlade, some 15 years ago, but due to lack of maintenance, the building and its facilities have become a shadow of itself.
A former student of the school, Rotimi Olawin, in an open letter addressed to Akinlade, disclosed that computer facilities that were initially provided for the ICT building were no longer available.
He also decried the state of the buildings in the school, stressing that they now posed a threat to the students.
Olawin said, “It saddens my heart to have visited the school recently, years after my graduation, and found the deplorable state of the said building. It’s no exaggeration to say that the building has changed its functionality to serve as a habitat for reptiles and snakes.
“Not a single computer remains; I presume they might have been removed and stored in a safer place. The building’s condition is dire: the ceiling is damaged, doors and windows are broken, AC engines are missing, and the solar panels appear to have been stolen.
“I can tell you that almost all the buildings in the school need urgent attention; none of the buildings can boast of a good roof, and many of the roofs are at risk of collapsing. The school lacks basic amenities, including windows, chairs, and sufficient teachers.” Punch
