The House of Representatives has condemned the armed ambush on the convoy of Jafaru Mohammed Ali, who represents Borgu and Agwara Federal Constituency of Niger State, describing the incident as a cowardly and tragic attack.
The attack reportedly occurred on Tuesday afternoon along the Lumma–Babanna Road in Borgu Local Government Area of the state, a volatile corridor notorious for bandit incursions and cross-border movement of armed groups.
It was said to have taken place between 1pm and 2pm as the lawmaker’s convoy approached Babanna, a community near the Republic of Benin border.
In a statement issued by the House Spokesman, Akin Rotimi, on Friday, the Green Chamber said the ambush resulted in the deaths of several security operatives, injuries to the lawmaker’s driver and aides, and damage to multiple vehicles in the convoy.
According to the statement, the attack occurred while the lawmaker was travelling to a constituency engagement.
“The remote distance of the area of the attack further demonstrates the extent to which Honourable Members go to ensure constituency services reach every Nigerian, no matter how far or challenging the terrain.
“The cowardly attack reportedly resulted in the death of gallant security operatives, injuries to his driver and aides, and extensive damage to several vehicles in the convoy. Punch
