Sit-at-home: Banks, schools close in Imo

Business activities were paralysed on Monday as residents continued to observe the seven days sit-at-home directive by a separatist leader and Finland-based Simon Ekpa.

The roads were dotted by few people who braved the odds to attend to their daily needs.

Our correspondent who monitored the situation in Owerri metropolis reports that markets, banks, schools and supermarkets were closed.

It was gathered that the markets were shut following a letter purportedly written by a group loyal to the IPOB factional leader, Ekpa, who warned traders last Friday not to open the markets.

A resident, who simply gave his name as Samson, told The Nation IPOB wrote to the market leaders and associations at Ekeonuwa market to stay at home.

Few buses were seen plying the roads, and some of them complained that there were no passengers.

A driver, Kenneth Ibe, said: “As you can see, today’s lockdown is the worse people are coming out, we don’t have passengers, few of us that came out for business drive our buses empty with the high cost of fuel.”

He appealed to the Federal Government to release Nnamdi Kanu and see if the insecurity in the region would reduce. Nation
