Tertiary institutions workers strike: PDP faults Kaduna gov, Uba Sani

The Kaduna State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has raised the alarm over what it described as the deteriorating state of tertiary education in the state, following a warning strike by staff unions across key institutions.

The affected institutions include Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic, Kaduna State College of Education, Gidan Waya, Kaduna State College of Nursing, and Shehu Idris College of Health Technology, Makarfi.

The unions embarked on the strike to protest poor working conditions and infrastructural decay.

In a statement issued on Friday, the state PDP chairman, Edward Masha, described the strike action as a wake-up call for the state government, warning that the disruption could derail the academic calendar and jeopardise the future of thousands of students.“The strike, which began in the early hours of Thursday, is a direct consequence of the government’s neglect of the education sector despite the significant financial inflows received by the APC-led administration in the last two years,” the statement read in part.
