Dignitaries from across the country’s political and business circles on Saturday converged on Onicha Olona in Delta State as billionaire businessman, Tony Elumelu, laid his father-in-law, Sir Israel Ogbue, to rest.
The funeral drew top government officials and prominent figures, including Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, former governor Ifeanyi Okowa, and Senator Ned Nwoko.
Members of the House of Representatives, including Victor Nwokolo and Ngozi Okolie, were also present.
Other dignitaries included the Deputy Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Arthur Akpowowo, the House Majority Leader, Emeka Nwaobi, APC State Chairman, Chief Solomon Arenyeka, and the Chairman of Aniocha North Local Government Area, Bazim Chinyere, alongside party leaders, business associates, and community members.
At a night of tribute held at St Peter’s Anglican Church, Onicha Olona, family members and associates described the late Ogbue as a bridge-builder whose life was defined by service, integrity, and faith. The Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Asaba, Rt Rev Kingsley Obuh, who officiated at the service, described the deceased as a devoted Christian and a committed member of the church, noting his contributions to religious and community development.
The bishop urged the congregation to “reflect on the virtues of the deceased and live lives marked by service, humility, and faith” stressing that “true legacy lies in a positive impact on others.”
In a tribute on behalf of the family, Ebele Ogbue, described the late patriarch as a man who lived a fulfilled and impactful life, leaving behind a legacy rooted in hard work, discipline, and dedication to family and education.
According to him, “the deceased, despite his advanced age, his passing remained deeply felt by his children and loved ones.”
The family however expressed confidence that the late Sir Ogbue had gone to rest in a better place, pledging to uphold his values. Punch
