Weeping as gunmen kill seven in Bauchi

The Bauchi State Police Command has confirmed the death of seven persons in fresh attacks by suspected gunmen.

The gunmen were said to have raided the villages of Gara and Gamji in Burra District of Ningi Local Government Area on Tuesday night.

The victims of the attacks were buried on Wednesday morning.

The Nation reports that Ningi LGA has been vulnerable to attacks in recent times due to its proximity to Lame-Burra Forest Reserve, a hideout for kidnappers.

Our reporter gathered that the bandits invaded the area on a motorcycle, at about 9pm on Tuesday, where they attacked innocent people.

A volunteer security guard and a community leader were among those feared killed, while a soldier at Gamji Village sustained injury during the gun battle.

Spokesman of the command, SP Ahmed Wakili, described the killing as “unprovoked and mindless.”

He commiserated with the families of those who lost their lives in the attack.

“We received a distress call that some bandits had attacked Kada and Gamji villages under Burra district of Ningi LGA. They came in large numbers, shooting sporadically, as a result, seven people were killed,” he said.

Wakil said operatives of the command with support from the Nigerian military, engaged the bandits and neutralised three of them in the process.

He said others scampered in disarray into the nearby bushes with possible gun wounds. Nation
