Delta: Outrage, condemnation trail alleged rape, molestation of girls during festival

Delta map
Outrage has trailed the reported rape and assault of young women during a festival in Oruamudhu community in Ozoro, Isoko north LGA of Delta state.
Multiple videos showing men ripping apart the clothes of young women, while groping them in an animalistic and despicable manner, suffused social media on Thursday.
In one of the clips, a young lady could be seen crying and clutching her torn clothing as some young men violently groped her.
Another footage showed some men attacking and fondling a young lady who was on a motorcycle.
Some social media users said the festival prohibits women from venturing outdoors from 12pm to the next day.
They claim that the name of the festival is Uruamudhu Aluejo. TheCable is yet to independently verify this.
Some social media users also claimed that it was the youths in the community who turned the festival into a “rape event” because women were prohibited from participating in the festival.
TheCable sighted screenshots of messages posted to the WhatsApp community of students from Southern Delta University, Ozoro, warning female students not to step outside the community from 12pm on Thursday.
Some reports also claimed that young men were moving from one apartment to another to defile women.
Videos of the incident have sparked outrage on social media, with many Nigerians calling on security agencies to arrest the perpetrators and protect the women.
Rape and sexual assault are criminal offences in Delta state.
Reacting to one of the videos via X, Bright Edafe, Delta police spokesperson, described the incident as “alarming, disgusting, and embarrassing”.
Edafe said the Delta police commissioner has ordered a probe of the incident, while calling on witnesses to provide useful information.
“The CP has ordered an investigation into the incident. The command condemns this in totality, no custom or tradition is superior to the rights of citizens,” Edafe wrote via X.
“The Commissioner of Police Delta State CP Aina Adesola urges Deltans to remain calm while assuring that those responsible for this barbaric act will be arrested and brought to justice.
“The command also calls for witnesses who can provide useful information that can aid the ongoing investigation.”
There’s a Festival Rites ongoing today in Ozoro, Isoko north LGA Delta state, whereby if they see any woman outside she would be Raped and molested alt=”😭” draggable=false role=img class=emoji v:shapes=”_x0000_i1025″>
Honestly I don’t understand a culture or tradition whereby RAPE is deemed legal just to carry out festival rites in 2026 pic.twitter.com/w09W3BZBmu
And when we say stop raping women, stop sexually assaulting women, they’ll come out in their numbers to attack you. Yet this kind of stupid festival still exists in 2026 where the male gender happily do this to women and go unpunished!!!!
Sad seeing videos showing several ladies crying for help amid alleged ‘raping festival’ by groups of men in Ozoro, Delta state
Arrant Nonsensical Nonsense
Animalistic Men Ozoro must be arrested
Totally Condemnable. Inhuman festival
Why is TwitterNG so quiet on the matter?

Many women including myself have been talking about the rape culture in Delta State for years and I see it has gotten worse.
They’ve used culture to give themselves the right to do it openly for 7daysThecable
