A 38-year-old mother of two, Nancy Aondongu, has been diagnosed with breast cancer, four years after welcoming her second child.

Aondongu was said to have started noticing pains on one of her breasts after welcoming her child in December 2019, but it worsened a few months ago and she was eventually diagnosed with breast cancer.

Her husband, Raphael, who spoke to The PUNCH via telephone call, said his wife had been advised to undergo a surgery for her ailment.

Speaking on the origin of the ailment, Raphael, a native of Vandeikya community in Benue State, said, “My wife started feeling pains in her breast in December 2019 after we welcomed our second child.

“In 2020, my sister then told us to go to the hospital so we could know what was wrong.

“At that time, I didn’t have any money. So when she came, my wife and I followed her to Abuja. When we went to the hospital there, we then discovered that the pains were symptoms of cancer. We were advised to treat it quickly before it became worse.

“As we were looking for money for treatment, the breast gradually began to swell and became very hard.”

The father-of-two noted that his wife, who used to sell tomatoes and other foodstuff, had to stop her business because of the sickness.

“She does not go to market again. She stopped going to market last year because of the pain,” a sad Raphael told The PUNCH.

The 41-year-old noted that they visited the National Hospital, Abuja again in January 2023 where the doctor advised them on an immediate operation.

“We went to the hospital again and we were told that she had to be operated on,” the bricklayer said. He noted that the doctor said some pints of blood would be bought for the operation and the entire process would cost N750,000.

Stating that he had managed to gather only N45,000, Raphael added, “I’ve been trying to gather the money from my job little by little but it’s not every time that we get jobs. Punch
