Monkey pox: Benue quarantines corps member, lover
The Benue State Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr. Cecilia Ojabo, has said that a 20-year- old National Youth Service Corp member (names withheld) has been quarantined after showing symptoms of monkey pox.
The commissioner, who spoke with our correspondent, said the corps member was the lover to another patient who was suspected of having monkey pox in Gboko last month.
She noted that the result of the blood samples of the Gboko victim of monkey pox was received a few days ago and it was found to be positive.
“The lady has since been quarantined, but when her lover who is a corps member began to develop rashes we had to isolate him.
“While we were embarking on contact tracing, we discovered that the lady had another lover who came from Lagos. We contacted the man on phone so that he would be connected to Lagos State Ministry of Health, but he denied ever visiting Benue State and other subsequent calls made to his line have not gone through.”
The commissioner said that the second suspected case in Vandeikya area of the state was later diagnosed to be measles. Punch
